Overview
Units are the organizational sectors/subdivisions within your organization — where the action happens. They're referenced throughout BRIDGE ONE: see Target Houses and Targets, which are built on a Unit + Fiscal Year.
Go to Settings (the gear icon on the main nav, admins only) → Units.
Creating a Unit
Click the floating action button in the bottom right of the Units list. A Unit needs:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | |
| Overarching unit (parent unit) | Every BRIDGE ONE installation has a root unit, and every unit is placed under it by default. Nest units to reflect management layers — e.g. a “Europe” unit under the root, then “Germany” under “Europe.” |
| Owners | One or more people, automatically set as Target House owners whenever a Target House is created under this unit — a shortcut for Target House management. |
| Can manage target house | A toggle. If enabled, you must also set a Target House approver and this unit's delegation capabilities (below). |
Delegation Capabilities
Delegations come from Targets. By default, delegation is hierarchical — a unit can only delegate its targets to its own hierarchical children.
Units can also use custom delegation, letting you pick specific units — not just direct children — that this unit can delegate targets (create sub-targets) to.
To set it up:
Views
- List view — the default view for units.
- Diagram view — visualizes the hierarchy between units at a glance.
[TODO] A screenshot of the diagram view would help here once one's available.
Archiving and Deleting
Units can't be deleted directly — only archived. Deleting cascades to every related record (e.g. all of the unit's Target Houses), so archiving lets you preserve history instead of losing it outright.
To delete a unit, it's a deliberate two-step process:
- An active unit is selectable throughout the system — in Projects, Initiatives, and (if enabled) Target Houses.
- Archiving removes it from that selectable list but keeps its historical records intact.
- Deleting the archived unit permanently removes those records.
